Buenos Aires is one of the most amazing cities I have ever been to. I got a chance to spend a few weeks there last November, and I fell in love with the city! With such a unique combination of European influence and Latin American flair, it is like nowhere else I’ve been. There are so many incredible things to do- from eating amazing food, to drinking delicious wine, to exploring the arts and culture, I think it’s impossible to get bored on a trip to Buenos Aires. In this article, I will cover all the best things to do in Buenos Aires.

Things to Do in Buenos Aires: Historical and cultural sightseeing
Buenos Aires is a city filled with history and culture. Here are some of the best ways to experience it:
- Recoleta Cemetary: This is one of the most iconic sights in Buenos Aires. It might sound weird that a cemetery would be a tourist destination, but some of the headstones and mausoleums are absolutely stunning. Notably, this is where Eva Peron is buried.
- Casa Rosada: This is Argentina’s version of the White House- except it’s pink! The president of Argentina lives here.
- Jardin Japones: This stunning Japanese Garden is definitely worth a visit if you have time.
- Ateneo Grand Splendid: This is a bookstore in an incredible building that used to be a theater. Even if you don’t want to shop for books, you’ll definitely want to go in an take a look.
- Watch a Tango Show: A tango show is an absolute must when visiting Argentina. Although you can see tango performers on the street all over the city, I really enjoyed going to a tango and dinner show at a theater. I went to this one at Galería Güemes, and I would definitely recommend it!
- Palacio Barolo: Palacio Barolo is a beautiful historical building that was designed by by Italian architect Mario Palanti, with references to the Divine Comedy. There is also an incredible viewpoint at the top- for many years, this was the tallest building in Buenos Aires.
Things to Do in Buenos Aires: Museums
Buenos Aires has many incredible museums to visit. These were a few of my favourites:
- MALBA: The Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires is probably the most famous museum in Buenos Aires, and is a must see. There are works from many famous artists, including Frida Kahlo!
- National Historical Museum: The Museo Histórico Nacional gives an overview of Argentinian history. I really enjoyed it, and I think it was a great way to learn more about the background of the country.
- Holocaust Museum Buenos Aires: This museum offers an incredible insight into the horrors of the Holocaust, particularly how it relates to Argentinian history. It was very educational, and in my opinion, a must visit.
- El Zanjon: El Zanjon is a stunning restored house from the 1830s with tunnels underneath, right in the city center. Not only is it a beautiful house, but it also offers insight into the history of the city.
Things to Do in Buenos Aires: Shopping
If you’re looking to do some shopping in Buenos Aires, there are a few popular spots to do that:
- Calle Florida: Calle Florida is a shopping street in the city center. It is lined with shops and vendors.
- Palermo: The Palermo neighbourhood is one of the most popular areas for shopping in Buenos Aires. There are so many cool shops to check out!
- San Telmo Sunday Market: The San Telmo Market is a huge shopping area with tons of different food vendors, souvenir shops, vintage stores and more. Sunday is definitely the best day to go- even more vendors set up in the blocks surrounding outside (weather permitting)!
Things to Do in Buenos Aires: Explore Trendy Neighbourhoods
Buenos Aires is a huge city, with many different areas to explore. Some neighbourhoods are more popular with tourists than others.
- Palermo: I mentioned this neighbourhood in the list of shopping areas as well, but it is definitely worth visiting even if you’re not interested in shopping. There are plenty of restaurants, parks, and street art that you must see! I particularly loved Parque Tres de Febrero- a huge urban park with beautiful gardens and a lake.
- Puerto Madero: Puerto Madero is a trendy and more modern neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, on the water. This is a great spot to just walk around, or get food- there are many great restaurants. Puerto Madero is especially beautiful at night!
- La Boca: La Boca is one of the most popular attractions in Buenos Aires. Caminito, the most famous street in La Boca, is famous for its bright coloured buildings. This is an absolute must see when visiting Buenos Aires, but be careful! La Boca can be dangerous at night, so make sure you only visit during the day time, and stick near Caminito.
